Each October, The Women and Gender Resource Center recognize Dating and Domestic Violence Awareness by hosting a variety of educational programs. Please see the information below and plan to join us.

Crimson goes Purple

The WGRC invites you to wear a purple ribbon and/or purple attire on Fridays throughout the month as a show of support for survivors of dating and domestic violence. Take a photo and share it on social media using #CrimsonGoesPurple and #DVAMUA.

Honor and Remembrance Trees

Located throughout campus, stop by and create a ribbon in honor of a domestic violence or breast cancer survivor or someone who has lost their life. Together, ribbon submissions show some of the impact breast cancer and dating/domestic violence have had on our community.

Journey of a Survivor Panel Series

Tuesdays, 2 – 3 p.m., Student Center 3108

  • October 5 – Dynamics of Dating and Domestic Violence. Peer leaders and staff will be speaking on the dynamics of dating and domestic violence and their importance in understanding this complex social issue.
  • October 12 – Survivor Options and Resources. Our peer leaders will be discussing the options and resources available to survivors of dating/domestic violence on our campus.
  • October 19 – Disclosure and Supporting Survivors. Join one of our Victim Advocates in a discussion on how to support survivors throughout their disclosure and healing process.
  • October 26 – Healing and Therapy. Two of our licensed therapists will be speaking on the importance of therapy and a survivor’s journey to healing.

Friday Crafternoon

October 8 and 22, Student Center 3111

The WGRC Student Leadership Council will host two sessions of blanket making. Blankets will be donated to a domestic violence shelter in honor of Dating and Domestic Violence Awareness month and the cancer center in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Harbor Training

October 21 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., Employee Resource Center

Staff, faculty, and graduate student participants will gain insight and sensitivity to the issues of interpersonal violence, and be made aware of the resources available to victims in order to provide information to those in need.

An Empty Seat at the Table

October 11 – 25, Locations : Student Center, Fresh Foods, Lakeside Dining, and Burke Dining Hall

Place settings will be decorated in honor of college students across the country who have lost their lives to dating or domestic violence.
